Ravida overcame the challenges of a sloping site and local-council height restrictions to create this classic French Provincial-style family home with a modern edge.
Designing a home for an active family with teenage children is typically not all that difficult.
However, taking advantage of a sloping site that offered the potential for local views, and keeping within the council’s rigid height controls (whilst still having the home looking fabulous from the street) took a bit more thought.
Ravida’s clever design solution included placing a garage/semi-basement under the home, which helped to maximise the use of the land, while clearing the front elevation for some design symmetry.
Using several design devices and techniques, Ravida’s expert design team was able to keep the home within the local height restriction, while ensuring it doesn’t look ‘squat’, and instead sits proudly and beautifully in the streetscape.
The home’s garage/semi-basement offers space for three cars (or two cars and a boat), and also includes a theatre room, a laundry with external access, a wine cellar and lots of storage.
The ground floor is fully tiled, and features remarkably efficient, silent and allergy-free in-floor slab heating. This level also includes the master bedroom, with a beautiful ensuite and large walk-in robe.
There is also a formal living room, huge home office/library, and a large open-plan kitchen, meals and family area. The top floor of the home has 3 very large bedrooms (all with large walk-in robes and ensuites), a walk-in linen room, and a large multipurpose/TV room that opens out to a balcony that takes in the local views.
The entire home features soaring three-metre high ceilings with decorative cornices, and a lift connects all three levels of the home.
